I believe Mike may be one of the most experienced Mayoralty candidates this city has ever seen.<\/h3>\n

I am thrilled to be able to endorse a lifelong friend, Mike Starchuk, who has spent his life in service to others.\u00a0 As a young man he became a volunteer firefighter in Newton and found his calling with a career in the Surrey Fire Department.\u00a0 Mike and I worked together on the front lines in the streets of Whalley, Newton and around Surrey. I saw firsthand his compassion for others, in their most desperate times of need. \"Mike<\/a><\/p>\n

It was on those streets, Mike realized firefighters needed a more dynamic training model to deal with our community challenges in today\u2019s world. Mike became an internationally recognized trainer in modern firefighter training, training firefighters across North America, from New York to L.A. from Fredericton to Victoria.\u00a0 Moving though the Surrey Fire Department ranks it was a natural fit for him to become Chief Fire Training Officer.\u00a0 When that wasn\u2019t challenging enough, he took his last promotion to Chief Fire Prevention offer and rewrote the book in reducing red tape and made sure those in the most desperate need had safe facilities to recover in.\u00a0 As a founding member of Surrey Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation, he built a foundation for one of the most generous, productive charities in this city over the past three decades.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I have seen Mike literally with my life in his hands, when he pulled me from a burning building as it collapsed around me.\u00a0 Mike has been a Surrey City councillor, Mike has been a Surrey MLA in the legislature, Mike has spent years building relationships in Ottawa advocating for improved firefighter safety. Mike raised his family in Surrey and worked on the front lines in a lifetime of service to the people of Surrey. Mike builds relationships and can get things done in Victoria, Ottawa and here at home. I believe Mike may be one of the most experienced Mayoralty candidates this city has ever seen.<\/p>\n

Team Mike is an eclectic group of people, who know Mike Starchuk from his many decades of involvement in the Surrey community: Some from his volunteering, some as part of the Surrey Firefighters, some from his time as a Surrey City Councillor, and some from when he was the MLA for Surrey-Cloverdale.<\/p>\n

All of us know him to be a champion for the underdog, and an honest, upstanding guy, with a heart of gold.\u00a0 If you are looking for a genuine, caring, and honest person to vote for, Mike is your choice!\"Mike<\/p>\n

Speaking for myself, I met Mike 35+ years ago, when we were both volunteering at a Variety Club fundraiser\u2026 which, shortly after, we took over running, and helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for BC\u2019s kids.\u00a0 He took inspiration from that, and was one of the founding members of the Surrey Firefighters Charitable Foundation.\u00a0\u00a0He was, back then, the same amazing guy he is today\u2026 always the first one to step up help someone, and the last one to look for glory.\u00a0 The only difference between then and now, is, these days, he\u2019s not rocking a mullet!<\/p>\n

I am happy and proud to support him, for he is one of the finest people I have ever had the privilege to know, and I am lucky enough to call him my friend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Should he be elected as the Mayor of Surrey, the City will be captained by someone with a steady hand, a vision for the future, and by someone with a deep and abiding love for the City that he calls home.<\/p>\n
